BMW launched its first all-electric SUV - iX in the country at an introductory price of Rs 1.16 crore (ex-showroom). The automaker’s flagship electric vehicle will be brought to the country via the CBU route. The iX all-electric SUV is offered in two variants namely xDrive 40 and xDrive 50. However, it has been launched in xDrive 40 guise. Bookings have commenced. Interested buyers can book the vehicle either through BMW dealerships across major metropolitan cities in India or via shop.bmw.in. As for the deliveries of the SUV, it is slated to begin in April 2022. 


In terms of design, the BMW iX all-electric SUV features a large BMW kidney grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps with dual-beam appearances. In addition, it gets a 3D bonnet, rectangular wheel arches, frameless windows, and slim one-piece rear lights. The front bumper gets blue accents which basically points towards the SUV’s all-electric characteristics. Moving on, the SUV is offered in a total of four metallic color options namely Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire and Sophisto Grey. Besides this, it is also available in BMW Individual Aventurine Red metallic paint finish.


The cabin of the BMW iX adapts a minimalistic approach with sleek styling. The SUV gets race-car inspired hexagonal steering wheel, BMW sky lounge panorama glass roof, multi-functional seats with integral head restraints & massage function, and ambient lighting. The cabin further boasts of leather upholstery. Other feature highlights include a BMW curved-display with navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a BMW head-up display, BMW virtual assistant, BMW natural interaction, wireless charging, wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto connectivity, Harman kardon Surround Sound System with 18 speakers, parking assistant plus, reversing assistant, and many others.

Performance-wise, the BMW iX comes equipped with two electric motors fitted on the front and rear axles. Talking about the iX xDrive 40, it churns out 324 bhp power and 630 Nm peak torque. The variant can further accomplish a range of 414 km on a single charge. The xDrive 50, on the other hand, generates 522 bhp power and 765 Nm peak torque. Now this variant can achieve a driving range of 611 km without recharge. The electric SUV is further capable of accelerating from 0-100 kmph in just 6.1 seconds.

The automaker provides the all-electric SUV with a 150 kW DC charger that can charge the battery up to 80 percent in 31 minutes. While the 50 kW DC charger can charge the battery up to 80 percent in just 73 minutes. However, with a 11 kW AC charger, the battery can be charged 100 percent in about 7 hours. Besides these, BMW is offering a complimentary smart BMW Wallbox charger in an introductory offer. This can be integrated at home for a safe and convenient charging up to 11 kW.
