Mercedes Benz India has launched the 2021 S-Class at an introductory price of Rs 2.17 Crores (Ex. Showroom, India) in the country. It has been presented in two variants namely 400d 4MATIC and 450 4MATIC. The German luxury brand has revealed that more than half of the 150 units of the new S-Class have already been booked. The 2021 Mercedes Benz S-Class will be sold as CBU in India while it is claimed to be the most advanced iteration of the sedan ever made. It was also the winner of ‘2021 World Luxury Car of the Year’.


Dimensionally, the seventh-gen S-Class is longer by 34mm, wider by 22mm and taller by 13mm than the outgoing model. The wheelbase has also been increased by 51mm as compared to the previous-gen sedan. The exterior comes with several AMG elements including the redesigned tail-lamp cluster and 20-inch alloy wheels, which is a first for the S-Class in India. It gets seamless door handles which electrically extend when approached or touched by the driver. The cabin is finished in Nappa leather with diamond cross stitch. The 2021 Mercedes Benz S-Class comes with a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with NTG7 MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) with 'Mercedes Me Connect' with Fingerprint and voice recognition, and voice assistant “Hey Mercedes”.


The S-Class can be availed in five exterior colors namely Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green. Other notable features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Rear MBUX touch tablets, 64-color Active ambient lighting, Front and rear massage seats, ENERGIZING COMFORT programs for front and rear seats and Burmester high-end 4D surround sound system with 30 loudspeakers and 8 resonators. Safety-wise, Mercedes has equipped the 2021 S-Class with all-new rear airbags which are the world's first frontal airbag for the rear two passengers on the outer rear seats. The Driving Assistance Package 5.0 with multiple new functions also comes as standard with the saloon. The company has sold more than 8000 units of the S-Class in India till date.


Mechanically, the 2021 Mercedes Benz S-Class is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants have a 3.0L in-line 6-cylinder engine which generates maximum power of 367 bhp between 5,500-6,100 rpm and peak torque of 500 Nm between 1,600-4,500 rpm. The diesel variants are also powered by a 3.0L in-line 6-cylinder motor which dishes out 330 bhp between 3,600-4,200 rpm and 700 Nm between 1,200-3,200 rpm. The petrol variant will do a 0-100kmph sprint in merely 5.1 seconds while the diesel version takes 5.4 seconds for the same. Both the engines come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system as standard. The top speed for both petrol and diesel models is rated at 250kmph.
