Tadpole Projects have successfully converted the first premium car, C-180, C-Class of Mercedes Benz from ICE to EV. This has been done via a comprehensive ecosystem approach. The main aim of the brand is to make retrofitting the future of mobility.
The revamped EV is the petrol variant of Mercedes C-180. It was manufactured in 2003. After the conversion, the vehicle comes with new-age mobility features. These include geo-fencing, GPS, and remote performance assessment. Performance-wise, the car can achieve a top speed of 90 kmph. It can cover a range of 150 kms on a single charge.
Besides this, the speed and range of the EV can further be pushed to beyond 150 kmph and 250 kms respectively as per the user’s need. As of now, the vehicle supports AC charger but a DC charger will be provided in future. However, it takes 5-6 hours to charge the batteries. The revamped EV comes with a warranty of 3 years on batteries and 2 years on the EV kit.
“The latest initiative underlines our commitment to accelerating the national vision of propelling electric mobility adoption in India. Tadpole Projects follows a standard retrofitting process. It includes research on the vehicle and other elements like the dynamics, structure, wheel assembly, and transmission, among other things. Our in-house team then connects this research with the client's requirements in terms of range and speed and accordingly designs the motors and rechargeable energy storage systems. The R&D and advanced testing of vehicles are supported by leading institutions like IIT Delhi, FITT, and the Centre of Automotive Research and Tribology (CART),” as commented by Jawaad Khan, Founder-Tadpole Projects.
Talking about Tadpole Projects, it was launched in August 2020. It further has a subsidiary brand called Trouve Motors, under which it plans to launch a range of new EVs. These include an advanced hyper sports bike and the first electric car, Sports Activity Coupe, that will come with a solar panel roof.
Besides this, the brand plans to retrofit vehicles like buses, cranes, earth-moving and other construction equipment. The brand made a mark in the history of the Indian Automobile sector by performing its first ICE Vintage car conversion to EV – Volkswagen Beetle. Furthermore, it is also the first one in the country to retrofit premium luxury segment cars to EVs.
