  • 2021 Tata Nano Electric spied featuring a digital speedometer.
  • Tata Motors will send the body panels to Jayem for assembling.

Tata Nano was one of the revolutionary products to arrive in the Indian automobile market. With a price of Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom, India), it was the cheapest car in India as well as globally. Despite the attractive price, it failed to garner much traction in the domestic market and was discontinued. Now, it is making a comeback in a fully electric version. This signals the intention of Tata Motors to grab market share in the fast-growing EV segment. The Indian automaker also launched the Nexon EV earlier this year which went on to become the best-selling EV in the domestic market.

Thanks to our friends at Rushlane, we have now got hold of some spied images of Nano EV with a digital speedometer. It was in the offering for a long time as the automaker announced a collaboration with Jayem Automotives to launch Tata Nano EV way back in 2017. It will be introduced in the domestic market under the Jayem Neo brand. As per various media reports, the Tata Nano EV was to be inducted into the Ola Electric fleet. After much delay, Ola Electric took a debt fund of Rs 40 crore from Tata Motors Finance to purchase Jayem Neo EV.

Talking about the design, it is quite similar to the discontinued Tata Nano. The notable point is the lack of Tata branding on the spotted Nano EV. Also, it comes with a black plastic bumper to reduce the costs. Further, the spied test mule features a fully digital instrument display. It will be mounted above the center console.

As per the video uploaded by Smiley Tamilian Tech, Tata Nano EV will be powered by a 17.7 kW, 48V electric motor sourced from Electra EV. It will churn out 23 bhp of power output. As per the agreement done 3 years ago, Tata Motors will provide the body panels while the electric powertrain responsibility will be taken care by Jayem itself. With the introduction of Nano EV, the homegrown manufacturer might take a lead in the EV segment considering Tata Nexon is currently a best-selling electric vehicle in India.
