News Highlights

  • Toyota Rumion is the rebadged version of Maruti Ertiga
  • Toyota Rumion is already on sale in South African market
  • Toyota Rumion India launch will happen by mid of 2022

Toyota Rumion - the rebadged version of the Ertiga MPV- was earlier launched in the South African market. Now, we have come to know that the Made-in-India MPV will also go on sale in India soon as the Japanese brand has filed for a trademark for the 'Rumion' moniker in the country. Like all the products born out of Suzuki Toyota partnership such as the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, Toyota Rumion will be identical to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in terms of appearance and features, save for a very few subtle updates here and there.

The front end of Toyota Rumion is similar to the Ertiga, except for the grille which gets the 'Toyota' emblem in the centre as we have previously seen with the Glanza. All the other exterior elements including the body panels and alloy wheels are identical to the Maruti MPV. Inside the cabin, it has the same dashboard and features as its Maruti counterpart. Though, Toyota Rumion is presented in an all-black upholstery as compared to the Ertiga's beige cabin. The MPV gets three rows of seating with a capacity to accommodate eight adults. Mechanically, it carries the same 1.5L 4-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine which develops top power of 105 bhp and peak torque of 138 Nm. The transmission choices available are a 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic unit.

Toyota has not disclosed the exact launch date of Rumion's launch but we feel that since it has trademarked the moniker, the MPV could be introduced in the coming months in the Indian market. The company is also working on a Ciaz based sedan which has been christened as Belta. Several reports have indicated that Maruti Ciaz's rebadged version will fill in the shoes of recently discontinued Yaris sedan. Toyota Belta production has already begun in India for some of the left-hand-drive markets. It is expected to launch in the country in the first quarter of 2022. Toyota Rumion's launch will happen 3-6 months after the Belta has gone on sale in our country.
