Tata Safari Dicor

Tata Safari was one of the most successful models to emerge from the stable of Tata Motors. Being a mid-sized SUV, it was in production for over 22 years from 1998 to 2020. Considered as an excellent off-roader, Tata Safari was one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market for a long time. The build quality was one of its biggest selling points in the crowded SUV segment. Despite its discontinuation in the Indian market, the Safari modified vehicles are most sought after.

Today, we are going to cover one of the most unique Tata Safari modifications. The 4X4 Tata Safari Dicor has been transformed into a 6-wheel car with an extended body. The modified SUV is currently in the state of Haryana and its modification was done at a local garage. Despite our assumption of a local garage or a workshop, the presence of Velociraptor 6×6 stickers indicate the designer’s efforts. For readers unfamiliar with stickers, the Velociraptor 6×6 stickers is a customization house that undertakes the transformation of an SUV into 6×6.

Apart from the  Velociraptor 6×6 stickers, the customized Tata Safari Dicor sports the Ladakh edition sticker. Tata Motors unveiled Safari Ladakh Edition way back at 2014 Auto Expo. If we look at the design updates in the customized Tata Safari Dicor, the front grill is revamped in all-black colour. Nothing much has changed with respect to the stock Tata Safari Dicor apart from the inclusion of a stone deflector at the front. The stone deflector makes the customized Tata Safari Dicor bulkier and muscular.  The roof is equipped with LED auxiliary lights.

The major modifications are done to the body as compared with the stock Safari Dicor. The customized Tata Safari is longer and the rear extended more leading to bigger window glass for the occupants at the rear. The axle is added in the vehicle to support the elongation in the length of the modified car. The car owner also specified that the modified Tata Safari new axle doesn’t receive any power. As the original Tata Safari Dicor came in 4x4 mode, the modified one can be called as a 6X6 model. Off-roading capability increase isn’t the motivation behind the customization, instead extra space in the rear is the primary driving force of the customization. Performance wise, the customized Tata Safari continues to be powered by the BS4 2.2-litre diesel engine churning out 140 hp of maximum power with peak torque of 320 Nm.

The total cost of modification comes to around Rs 8 Lakhs. The modified vehicles need certification from the ARAI (Automotive Research Authority of India) and get the vehicle registered.
