Tata Peregrin

Tata Motors has been working on a plethora of new products to make its presence felt in almost every segment in the Indian automotive industry. Of late, we have seen the company enter the sub-compact SUV segment with Nexon, premium hatchback and SUV segment with Altroz and Harrier, respectively. However, people have been desperate to see a mid-sized sedan from Tata that will give the likes of Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna a run for their money. And, it seems like the company has finally heard the people and a premium mid-sized sedan is in the works, reports IndianAutosBlog.

Going by the new report, Tata Motors has commenced work on an all-new sedan which will be based on the Altroz hatchback. It has been codenamed as 'Tata X452' while internally it is being called 'Peregrin'. Though, it will not carry the same nameplate as and when it launches in the market. Earlier, it was learnt that this highly ambitious project has been shelved in favour of a premium B-segment SUV but recent developments indicate that it is back on track and alive. The styling of Tata Peregrin could be identical to the Altroz, except for the rear end where it might feature different tail-lamp cluster and bumper. The side profile could draw inspiration from the Tata E-Vision Concept which was showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Underpinning either of the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) or Alfa Architecture (Alfa-Arc), it is expected to be introduced in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with BS6 compliant engines. The petrol variants, in all likelihood, will get the 1.2L turbocharged Revotron engine with top power and peak torque of 118bhp and 170Nm, respectively. On the other hand, the diesel variants will make use of the 1.5L turbocharged Revotorq engine which belts out 108bhp and 260Nm. The company is expected to start the road testing of the new sedan in the coming 6-8 months which clearly suggests that it might make its world premiere by mid 2021 while going on sale before 2022 in the Indian market.
