Rajasthan has joined the bandwagon by unveiling its electric vehicle (EV) policy 2021 with a myriad of benefits on the purchase of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers in the state. Earlier, various states such as Delhi, Gujarat, Meghalaya and Maharashtra had offered similar incentives for buyers of electric vehicles in the respective states. Rajasthan EV Policy 2021 was announced by Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas while it is a bit different from the other states.

As per the notification released by the Transport department, Government of Rajasthan, buyers will be refunded 2.5 percent SGST (State Goods and Service Tax) in their bank accounts within a week of purchase of electric vehicles through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. All the electric vehicles bought and registered between April 1, 2021 - March 31, 2022 in Rajasthan will be eligible for subsidies depending upon the battery capacity. The two-wheelers with battery capacity of upto 2 KWH will get the lowest incentive of Rs 5,000 while those with capacity over 5 KWH will get benefits of Rs 10,000. The three-wheelers and four-wheelers with battery capacity of upto 3 KWH will get a minimum subsidy of Rs 10,000.

The highest subsidy is announced for electric vehicles with battery capacity more than 5 KWH which is Rs 20,000. All of these benefits will be available to the buyers apart from the incentives offered under the Union Government's FAME 2 policy. After combining the state and central government benefits, the final cost of an electric vehicle would be substantially lesser. Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister, Rajasthan had announced incentives on the purchase of electric vehicles in his budget speech earlier this year. The announcement of these benefits will certainly encourage people to buy EVs and the adoption of electric vehicles is expected to increase in the state.
