Renault India has announced the world premiere of production-spec Kiger subcompact SUV on January 28, 2021 in the country. The company had earlier released the first images of Kiger Concept in November last year. Renault Kiger will be the French automaker's third global product after Kwid and Triber to be launched in India first, followed by other markets. Renault Kiger will compete against the likes of Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and Ford EcoSport in the Indian market.
Underpinning the CMFA+ architecture as the Triber MPV, Renault Kiger will come loaded with several first-in-segment features (as claimed by Renault). The Kiger is a result of the collaboration between the Corporate design teams in France and Renault India design. At the time of the global debut of the Concept version, the brand had said that the production-ready model will be nearly 80 percent similar to the show car in terms of design. Some of the striking design elements include semi-floating roof, a roof-integrated spoiler flag drop, a sloping rear window and tapered mirrors which are designed like airplane wings. Renault Kiger will ride on massive 19-inch alloy wheels with heavily grooved tyres.
The company made it clear that it will not leave any stone unturned to make Kiger the epitome of sportiness in its segment with the inclusion of roof rails, front and rear skid plates and 210mm ground clearance. It will flaunt two-level of full LED headlights and a neon indicator light. The rear profile will feature LED double “C” shaped tail lamps. Mechanically, Renault has already made it official that Kiger will debut an all-new turbo petrol engine with manual gearbox as standard. The company might introduce an AMT gearbox at a later stage. Renault Kiger price would be immensely aggressive and it could start at Rs 5 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) due to heavy localization.
