Maruti Suzuki's parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, is working on the next-gen versions of Alto, Wagon R and Vitara which are expected to be introduced by December 2021. In addition, the reports of Maruti Suzuki developing a special 5-door version of the Jimny SUV for the Indian market are turning out to be true and if all goes well, it will be launched during the festive season in November in the country. Though, the 5-door Maruti Jimny is not expected to launch in any other Asian markets including Japan.

Speaking of next-generation Maruti Alto, it will be the ninth-gen of this vehicle. It is believed to carry on its lightweight architecture while the company might add a new R06D type engine to hatch's lineup. The new powertrain will be a 658cc unit which will churn out power output of 48bhp. It will, in all likelihood, break the cover in December 2020. Furthermore, it is being learnt that Suzuki is also working on a sportier version of Alto, which is dubbed as Alto Works. Suzuki Alto Works will draw power from the turbocharged version of R06D petrol engine, albeit with unique bore and longer stroke to improve torque performance and mileage. It will have its world premiere in and around October 2021.

The report also confirms that work has also started on the new-gen Wagon R while it will debut around December 2021. The ongoing model has been on sale since February 2017 with the addition of the R06D type engine a couple of years later in December 2019. Last but not the least, the new-gen Suzuki Vitara (Escudo) is also being worked upon with a tentative global debut around January 2021. The new-gen Suzuki Vitara will be underpinning the same monocoque architecture with production taking place in Hungary. Under the hood, it will have a 1.4L turbo petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine line-up will also include a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
