The Toyota Fortuner Facelift and the 2020 Jeep Compass are all set to make their global debut tomorrow. Both the models are expected to launch in the first half of 2021 in the Indian market. The first teaser of Toyota Fortuner facelift has been released, thus confirming the global unveiling on June 4. While Jeep will unravel the mid-cycle update for the Compass SUV globally.
The Toyota Fortuner facelift was spied wearing camouflage in Thailand sometime back. Cosmetically, the SUV is likely to get a design change in the front bumper and grille in line with the newer Toyota SUVs like the RAV4 and Raize. The slimmer front grille gets glossy black bits instead of the chrome finish. The bumper gets triangle-shaped faux air intakes on each corner. It also features sharper LED headlamps and a skid plate that gets a glossy black finish. The rear end also gets minor updates. These include a mildly restyled bumper and tail-light inserts. On the sides, the SUV gets all-new 17-inch alloy wheels.
In the international market, the Toyota Fortuner Facelift will come with a more powerful iteration of the 2.8-litre diesel engine. In the outgoing model, the engine produced 177 bhp power and 420 Nm torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with 6-speed automatic transmission as an option. In the new model, it is likely to churn out more than 200 bhp of power. Toyota Fortuner Facelift, when launched in India, will continue to draw power from the same 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines. The launch of the facelift in the Indian market is still far away as the company recently updated the Fortuner to BS6 emission norms.
The Jeep Compass facelift is expected to feature a revised front grille and bumper along with new headlamps. The signature seven slat grid will be moved upwards. The rear end will get a new bumper and reworked LED tail light cluster.
In the international market, the Compass facelift is expected to get a 1.3-litre Firefly T4 flex-fuel (dual fuel) petrol engine clubbed with a CVT gearbox along with the front-wheel drive system. The sport version is expected to get a 2.0-litre flex-fuel diesel motor paired to a 6-speed Aisin gearbox.
However, the India-spec Jeep Compass facelift is likely to be powered by the existing BS6 compliant 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 163 bhp power. There will also be a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that churns out 173 bhp power output. The engine will come mated to a manual gearbox as standard along with the option of an automatic transmission.
