Tata Nexon EV

News Highlights

  • It will be powered by a bigger 40kWh battery pack
  • It will be expensive by Rs 3-4 Lakhs over current model
  • It will be sold along with the regular Nexon EV

The long range Tata Nexon EV will be launched on April 20, 2022 in the Indian market, claims an AutoCar India report. To be equipped with a bigger 40kWh battery pack, it is expected to deliver a driving range in excess of 400 kms on a single charge. The long range version of the Nexon electric will be retailed alongside the standard version of the e-SUV. Tata Motors had recently unveiled the Curvv electric SUV Concept and sources tell us that it is going to introduce another all-new product on April 28, 2022 in the country.

As far as exterior design is concerned, the long range version will be identical to the standard Nexon EV. The major upgrade will be in the form of a larger battery of 40kWh capacity as compared to the regular version's 30.2kWh which is an increase by 30 percent. In order to accomodate the bigger battery, the company has carried out modifications in the floor plan of the SUV while the boot capacity has also been reduced by a significant margin. However, the biggest advantage of the larger battery pack over the standard Nexon EV will be extended range. The present model returns 312 kms on a single charge as certified by ARAI. However, in real world conditions, it gets reduced to 220-250 kms. On the other hand, the long range Nexon is expected to deliver an ARAI certified range of 400+ kms which will be around 300+ kms in real world conditions.

The long range Tata Nexon EV is also expected to feature selectable regen modes which will allow the drivers to set the intensity of regenerative braking in order to further improve the range. The current version of the Nexon EV also boasts of variable regen, albeit with non-adjustable function. In terms of comfort features, the long range Nexon EV will get ventilated seats, cruise control, park mode and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard. It will attract a premium of Rs 3-4 Lakhs over the standard Nexon EV in terms of pricing due to extended range and additional features. The Nexon EV long range version will directly rival Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV in the Indian market.
