  • The electric sedan will reach India through the CBU route.

BYD India is all set to launch the BYD Seal EV in India on March 5, 2024. The Chinese automaker has started the booking process for the forthcoming EV. The BYD Seal is the third offering from the company for the Indian market. Bookings for the new Seal are currently open for a token amount of INR 1 lakh. The auto giant is likely to start the delivery process in April 2024.

The BYD Seal was first unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo. It will reach India through the CBU route. The new EV is expected to be the new flagship electric vehicle for the company. In the Indian market, the Chinese automaker currently retails the Atto 3 crossover and the e6 MPV. The Atto 3 is priced at INR 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the e6 comes at a price of INR 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

In global markets, the BYD Seal rivals the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and the BMW i4. The BYD Seal comes as a four-door coupe-style sedan. It measures 1,875 mm in width, 4,800 mm in length, and 1,460 mm in height. The electric sedan has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. It is based on the brand’s e-platform 3.0.

BYD will launch the Seal Electric in the country in both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive spec. The car is expected to come with a larger 82.5-kWh battery set. The rear-wheel-drive variant will churn out 308 bhp and a peak torque of 360 Nm. It will have a certified range of 570 km on a single charge. The all-wheel drive variant, on the other hand, will get a new electric motor that will produce 523 bhp of power and 670 Nm of peak torque.

The sedan is manufactured on an 800V architecture, which is similar to high-end electric vehicles like the Taycan. The Seal will sit above the BYD Atto 3 in the BYD’s model lineup. It is expected to come at a starting price of INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Seal all-wheel-drive variant is likely to be priced higher.

Aside from opening bookings, the auto giant has also declared that customers who reserve the new car by April 30, 2024, will get to watch a match at the next UEFA Euro 2024. They will have the opportunity to enter a contest for free match tickets and travel vouchers to the host city. The competition's winners will be revealed in May 2024.
