  • The Ather 450S and 450X are currently on sale in the Indian market.

Ather Energy is going to share more of its electric vehicle charging network, known as Ather Grid, with other electric vehicle manufacturers in India. The Bengaluru-based electric scooter maker stated that it is willing to help other manufacturers in the EV sector adopt its electric vehicle charging connector.

Ather's EV chargers have been recently acknowledged as a standard by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The company is one of the top EV manufacturers in the country, and it sold 9,344 units in the month of November 2023. Ather is open to giving free help to other EV makers to speed up the adoption of EVs across the country, with its engineers constantly assisting other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

As part of its Ather Grid Network, Ather Energy is currently offering around 1,600 electric vehicle charging stations in India. And it is planning to deploy 2,500 EV chargers by March 2024. The EV maker opened its charging stations to other OEMs almost two years ago. Hero MotoCorp launched its electric scooter Vida in the domestic market with two variants known as the V1 Pro and V1 Plus. Soon after launching these scooters, Hero MotoCorp opted for Ather’s EV charging network and became the first major EV manufacturer to grab the offer provided by Ather.

The Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, Mr. Ravneet S. Phokela, stated that, “Our engineers can come and work with your engineers so that you don’t have a steep learning curve. We have already made the investments. We already know technologies; we will help you adopt them.” Ravneet S. Phokela also said that the company will provide this service free of charge for both customers and other EV makers. “We are not looking to charge money for this... If I take a larger philosophical view on this one, we do not want to compete with the infrastructure. We want to collaborate on the charging side and complete the vehicle side. We want to fast-track the harmonization of charging infrastructure.”

EV chargers provided by the company, including DC and AC combined charging connectors, were acknowledged by the BIS in October 2023. They have been recognized as a standard for microcars, electric two-wheelers, and light electric vehicles. For now, Ather Energy only offers electric scooters in the country. The Ather 450S and 450X are now on sale in the Indian market, and it is planning to unveil its third variant, the fastest e-scooter, the 450 Apex, soon.
