Ampere Electric has rolled out its first premium electric scooter in the Indian market. The all-new electric scooter is called the Ampere Nexus, and it comes at a starting price of INR 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Nexus is available in two variants: the top-spec ST and the base EX. The Nexus base EX variant is priced at INR 1.10 lakh, while the top-spec ST comes at a cost of INR 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). The company will increase these prices by up to INR 10,000 after the special introductory offer ends.

The Ampere Nexus electric scooter can be purchased in four colors, namely Lunar White, Indian Red, Zanskar Aqua, and Steel Grey. The Nexus has now become the most feature-packed e-scooter in the brand’s lineup. The scooter has replaced the Primus and is a much more robust and premium scooter than the previous model. Bookings for the new Nexus e-scooter are currently open for a token amount of INR 10,000, while deliveries will commence in May.

Ampere has manufactured the new scooter in its Tamil Nadu facility. The Nexus maintains the tried-and-true design of a family-oriented electric scooter, with a dual rear shock absorber and telescopic fork. The scooter gets a 712-mm-long seat and all-LED lighting as standard. It has a wheelbase of 1,319 mm, ground clearance of 170 mm, and floorboard space of 235 mm.

The Ampere Nexus receives a front disc brake and a drum brake at the back. It rolls on 12-inch alloy wheels covered in 90-section tyres. The top-spec ST trim comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen with turn-by-turn navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, while the EX has a 6.2-inch segmented LCD. Instead of regular switches, the electric scooter houses buttons to start the turn indicators. The ST trim also gets charging statistics and music controls.

Powering the electric scooter is a 4kW e-motor, and when operating in "Power" mode, the scooter can reach a top speed of 93 kmph. The scooter's maximum speed in City mode is 63 kmph, and in Eco mode it is 42 kmph. There’s a Limp Home mode, which activates when the battery percentage falls below 20 percent. Additionally, there is a Reverse mode.

The all-new Ampere Nexus features a 3kWh LFP battery with a certified range of 136 km on one charge. It also has a mid-mounted motor that aids in achieving a top speed of 93 kmph. The company said that it selected the LFP-type battery for superior thermal stability given the hot Indian climate. A 15A charger is included with the scooter, and a 25A rapid charger can be purchased separately. The Ampere Nexus gives tough competition to the likes of the TVS iQube, Ather Rizta, and Ola S1 ranges.
