The all-new Volkswagen Virtus has made its world premiere in India. Being based on the MQB A0 IN platform with up to 95 percent of localization levels, it is the second product under the India 2.0 project. Volkswagen Virtus will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia in the Indian market while replacing the ageing Vento sedan in the automaker's portfolio. The pre-bookings for the Virtus have already begun across Volkswagen dealerships in India while it will go on sale from May 2022.
Volkswagen Virtus has the best-in-segment length of 4,561 mm along with boot capacity of 521 litres. The sedan will flaunt LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs upfront while riding on 16-inch alloy wheels. It will be available in six color schemes namely Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Candy White and Rising Blue. Some of the notable features in the sedan will include an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, KESSY (keyless entry and engine start), electric sunroof, smart-touch Climatronic AC, 8-speakers music system, wireless mobile charging, front ventilated leather seats and 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MyVolkswagen Connect App.
Volkswagen Virtus will carry a plethora of safety features in the form of 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), multi-collision brakes, hill-hold control, ISOFIX, 3 headrests at the rear, tire pressure deflation warning, reverse camera etc. to name a few. Mechanically, the Virtus sedan will be offered with the 1.0L TSI petrol and 1.5L TSI EVO petrol engine with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT). The former will develop top power of 113 bhp and peak torque of 178 Nm while the latter will churn out 147 bhp and 250 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox and idle Start/Stop function will be equipped as standard with the Virtus while a 6-speed automatic torque converter unit and a 7-speed DSG transmission will be available as options.
