Baojun recently launched the 530 in China with the option of a 7-seater version. While the 5-seater version was available since quite some time, Baojun has gone ahead and given the 530 a 7-seat layout after assessing the market’s demands.

The 7-seater version of the Baojun 530 remains dimensionally unchanged though. This translates to exact similar dimensions on the 7-seater Baojun 530 as the 5-seater version. The SUV measures 4655 mm in length, 1835 mm in width and 1760 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. While the third-row seats look wide, the legroom could be congested.

The 7-seater version has 2+3+2 seating arrangement with split ratio of 50:50. The seats are foldable and have adjustable headrests. There are cup holders and USB smartphone charging slots for rear seat passengers. It also gets a large LCD instrument cluster.

With MG Motor slated to enter the Indian market by mid of 2019, reports claim that the first car to be arriving in MG Motor’s Indian portfolio is most likely to be a re-badged version of the Baojun 530. It might be called the MG Gloster however, the official name of the MG Motor hasn’t been revealed as of now. With the introduction of the 7-seater Baojun 530 in China, it will be safe to assume that MG Motor might offer the 7-seater version here as well given the high demand of 7-seater SUVs in India.

The updated version of the Baojun 530 7-seater SUV is made available with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also does duty in the 5-seater version. This petrol unit is available in two states of tune one that produces 149.56 PS with 230 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and another that produces 150.92 PS with 250 Nm and comes with a CVT gearbox.

However, when MG Motor launches the re-badged Baojun 530 in India, it will also be offered with a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel powertrains. This engine will be available in two states of tune as well, a 140 PS version and a 170 PS version.

The MG SUV in India will go on sale in mid-2019 and will compete with the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. Prices are likely to start from Rs.10-15 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
