News Highlights

  • The all-electric range of the Golf PHEV is now up to 100 km.
  • The Golf GTI and GTI gain 20 horsepower.
  • VW's latest MIB4 infotainment system with integrated ChatGPT is now available for the Golf.

Volkswagen recently revealed the 2024 Golf facelift, which includes some noteworthy underbody and interior updates. In terms of appearance, the new Golf has a revised front bumper that features a narrower and taller air intake, but it still has the louvered pattern from the previous model. The hatchback now has a slightly sleeker appearance thanks to the slimmer headlamps. The sportier bumper is a feature of the GTI and GTE models, though the design has only been slightly altered. Along with other adjustments, the body-colored inserts have a flatter upper edge. Both the mesh finish and the five-diamond fog lamp design are retained.

Modifications to the bumper and updated tail-lamp internals are among the more minor adjustments made at the back.

The primary difference that becomes apparent when you open the door is the central touchscreen. The new MIB4 infotainment system, which comes standard with a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen, is now installed in the Golf. In addition, buyers have the choice of a larger 12.9-inch model. In addition to the updated UI, the infotainment system has an innovative voice assistant with ChatGPT integrated.

The switch to the MIB4 infotainment system, which has a larger screen and an integrated voice assistant called ChatGPT, is the most noticeable modification to the cabin.

Nearly all of the control surfaces remain the same, and the only notable change to the cabin's design is the larger touchscreens.

The GTI and GTE models have received the most significant upgrades when it comes to their powertrains. Although torque remains constant, the 2.0-liter TSI engine in the GTI now produces 20 horsepower more, increasing output to 262 horsepower. With a larger 19.7 kWh battery pack and an additional 20 horsepower to 268 horsepower, the GTE's all-electric range is increased to 100 kilometers. The 10.6 kWh unit was smaller in the previous plug-in hybrid GTE. There is also a standard PHEV model available, which has the same 1.5-liter TSI engine but an electric motor instead, producing 201 bhp less. The bigger battery pack helps the version with lower specs as well.

As for the regular Golf, the lineup begins with a 1.5-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine that is available in both mild-hybrid and non-hybrid configurations, in addition to a larger 2.0-liter TSI engine. The 2.0 TSI gains 13 horsepower over the outgoing model to reach 201 horsepower, while the 1.5 TSI mills develop between 114 and 148 horsepower. A pair of 2.0-liter TDI mills with 114 and 148 horsepower, respectively, are also available. The Golf R and GTI Clubsport will also return in the second half of 2024, according to VW.
