News Highlights

  • Bookings for the new C-Class are open for the existing Mercedes customers
  • The booking amount has been pegged at Rs 50000
  • The new C-Class sedan comes with multiple engine options

Mercedes Benz is all set to launch the new-gen C-Class on May 10 in the country. The automaker has already commenced the bookings for the new sedan exclusively for the existing Mercedes Benz owners. Interested buyers can book the vehicle at a token amount of Rs 50000.

Design-wise, the new C-Class sports a new and big radiator grille. In addition, it features sleeker headlights, a sportier bumper with larger intakes, two-piece tail lights, and many more. Furthermore, the wheelbase of the vehicle has been increased by 25mm, to 2,856mm. The overall length, on the other hand, is increased by 65mm.

"The new C-Class now creates a new benchmark by excelling in design, comfort and tech offerings, moving closer to the New S-Class, rightly underlining its popularity as the Baby S-Class." He further added, "The C-Class has already generated significant interest among our customers even before launch. To honour their loyalty and the long wait for the car, for the first time we are exclusively opening the bookings of the New C-Class for our existing Mercedes-Benz customers only," as commented by Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

The cabin of the new C-Class is inspired by the new S-Class. However, it does get subtle updates. The dashboard gets a minimalistic look. The feature highlights include an 11.9-inch touchscreen display for the second-generation MBUX infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and jet engine-inspired air-con vents. Furthermore, the infotainment functions will be operated via touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel. The major feature upgrade in the sedan is the rear steering wheel which has further helped to improve its turning circle radius (TCR) by 0.43 metre at 10.64 metres. However, we are still not sure whether the India-spec model will get this feature. The rest of the details will be revealed during the price announcement of the sedan.

Performance-wise, the luxury sedan will be offered in a range of petrol and diesel engine options that include C200 petrol, a C300d diesel and a C220d diesel. The C200 petrol houses 2.0-litre turbo petrol that churns out 196 bhp power. The C300d diesel, on the other hand, comes with a 2.0-litre motor that generates 244 bhp power. While the C220d C220d diesel gets a 2.0-litre unit that dishes out 193 bhp power. Transmission options include a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The automaker plans to introduce the C22d trim sometime later.
