News Highlights

  • Honda CB Hornet 200R will replace the Hornet 160R
  • Honda CB Hornet 200R price will be around Rs 1.40 Lakhs

Honda 2-Wheelers India has announced the launch of a new motorcycle on August 27, 2020 in the country. The company has sent out media invites with a tag line, "Fly Against the Wind" with a teaser image of the new product, which in all likelihood is the Honda CB Hornet 200R. The launch will take place via the digital route as is the case with all the automakers in these tough times of COVID-19 where social distancing is a must. Coming back to the CB Hornet 200R, it will be the most premium Honda bike to be locally manufactured in the Indian market.

Being the spiritual successor to the CB Hornet 160R, it is expected to be priced at Rs 1.40 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Honda didn't upgrade the Hornet 160R to BS6 emission levels and one of the primary reasons for that is the staggering costs. The company recently updated the X-Blade 160 to BS6 norms with a huge price hike of Rs 17,000 and hence, it considered it irrelevant to update the Hornet 160R due to the high costs involved and instead focus on a premium product in the 200cc segment. The teaser video shows that the new Honda CB Hornet 200R will have a full LED headlamp with a pair of gold-finished USD forks. It will also come with an all-digital instrument cluster which will consist of tachometer, speedometer, gear position indicator and likes.

Some of the other elements visible in the teaser video are belly pan, single-piece handlebar and extended fuel tank shrouds. The braking duties will be carried out by dual discs at front and rear with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard feature. One of the color schemes for Honda CB Hornet 200R will be the dual-tone blue and grey option. Mechanically, it will be powered by a BS6 compliant 200cc engine which will come equipped with Honda’s HET technology. It will take on the likes of KTM 200 Duke, Bajaj Pulsar NS200, and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. However, the success of the motorcycle will be based on pricing and Honda will aim for an aggressive price. Stay tuned for more updates!
