Piaggio & C. SpA is an Italian manufacturer known for its vehicles that are sold through its subsidies. It owns seven renowned companies namely Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, and Scarabeo. The company was started by Rinaldo Piaggio in the year 1884 and has its current headquarters in Pontedera, Italy. It was initially started as locomotive and railway carriages manufacturing company.
Piaggio entered the Indian market in the 1960s in a joint venture with the Bajaj Motors to sell its Vespa Scooters. Vespa soon became the people’s favourite and gained quite a reputation for itself. The production contract of the Vespa was then given to LML machinery which ended in the year 1999. After the end of the contract, the company withdrew from the Indian market, but it re-entered the Indian market in the year 2016.
On its return, the company introduced gloss painted six models of Vespa which included the Vespa Sxl. The Vespa SXL 125 is a refreshed version of the Vespa S scooter.
