Next-Generation BS6 Mahindra Scorpio spied; all set to launch in 2021.

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to give a complete makeover to the Scorpio. According to media reports, it will be launched in the second quarter of 2021. When compared to its predecessor, the Next-Generation Mahindra Scorpio will share quite a few design elements with that of the out going version. With no petrol engine in the offering earlier, the SUV like the upcoming Mahindra Thar will come equipped with a petrol powertain alongside diesel. Competing against the likes of Renault Duster, Kia Seltos, Tata Safari and Hyundai Creta, the updated Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be priced in the same ball park as the current model starting at Rs 10 lakhs.

Mechanically, the Next-Gen Scorpio will offer a BS6 compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that will produce 140 bhp of power and a 1.5-litre mStallion T-GDi petrol engine that will deliver 163 bhp. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and is also expected to offer a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Spy shots reveal that this 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will feature a typically boxy design along with large windows. It will sit on the same ladder-frame chassis as the next-gen Mahindra Thar. Expected to be longer and wider than the current model, the new Mahindra Scorpio dimentions now stand at 4456 mm in length and 1820 mm in width. In terms of design updates, it will get a lower roofline, an upright front fascia, slightly raked windshield and flared wheel arches. The SUV will get new body panels. It will discontinue the side facing rear third-row of seats to meet the latest safety norms. The rear end gets a side-hinged door with vertical tail-lights.

On the inside, it is expected to get a completely new dashboard layout featuring a large touch screen infotainment system compatible with Apple Car Play and Andriod Auto. When compared to the 2019 Mahindra Scorpio, the screen will be moved up on the dash with the AC vents being positioned on either sides. The instrument cluster look similar to the one found in the current model. The SUV is expected to share a lot of equipment with Mahindra Marazzo such as multi-function steering wheel and other connectivity features. There is no confirmation on the seating layout but the new model could be offered in 7, 8 and 9-seat configurations.
