The company is targeting a pre-Diwali launch for its Honda City rival.

Toyota is gearing up to launch its Vios sedan in India by mid-2018. It is currently targeting a launch date just before Diwali in 2018. The Japanese carmaker is currently working on localising the car enough to be able to price it competitively and take on the extremely successful Honda City.

Under the hood sits a 108hp version of the 1.5-litre petrol that is currently sold in India. The current trend is seeing buyers opt more for automatics, so you can expect Toyota to launch the car with a CVT variant. The diesel version of the car is still being evaluated for India. The company plans to bring its 88hp 1.4 D4D engine, currently under the hood of the Corolla. Toyota could also launch a TRD or sportier version of the car as well.
