Skoda Auto is working on a new C-segment mid-size sedan for the Indian market

After a surge in the prices of petrol and diesel, alternate fuel like CNG is gaining popularity. With this, there are many OEMs who are working on launching the CNG variants of their existing models. Skoda Auto was also planning to launch the CNG version of Rapid.

We had even spotted a prototype of CNG-powered Rapid last year at the CNG refuelling station in the country. Further, Zac Hollis - Director of Skoda Auto India, earlier this March took to his Twitter that the Rapid CNG was indeed on the test. A few days back Hollis confirmed that the company has no plans to launch the CNG Skoda Rapid in the Indian market. Besides this, he also stated that currently, Skoda is reviewing its future model plans.

Skoda Auto: New Mid-Size Sedan on Cards

Currently, Skoda Auto is working on a new C-Segment mid-size sedan that is likely to be launched earlier next year. Codenamed Slavia, the sedan is going to be larger than Rapid in terms of dimensions. It will be based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN architecture. Moving on, the new sedan has been spotted on multiple occasions in the past. Lately, the car was spied on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Performance-wise, it might come with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo petrol motor that is capable of generating a top power output of 114 bhp and a peak torque of 178 Nm. The unit will come paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The top-end trim might come with a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol unit. It is capable of developing 148 bhp and 250 Nm. This particular engine can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Besides this, the upcoming sedan from Skoda will be positioned between the outgoing Rapid and the new-gen Octavia.
