Honda’s first connected car, the All-New 5th Generation City debuts Alexa remote features; to be launched in July 2020

Honda Cars India has commenced production of its most awaited 2020 New-Gen Honda City in the country. The sedan is being manufactured at the company’s Greater Noida plant in Uttar Pradesh. With Central Government relaxing the lockdown restrictions a bit, the company’s plant resumed its operation under strict guidelines from mid of June 2020. Honda had already revealed majority of the information about the All-New 5th Generation City a couple of days back. It is now all set to launch the car in July this year with fresh styling, new features, and BS6 powertrains. 

 

 

The All-New 5th Generation Honda City will be the longest and widest vehicle in the mid-sized sedan segment in India. As compared to its predecessor, the New-Gen City features full-LED headlamps and L-shaped turn signals, giving it an aggressive look. The rear end of the car looks bold in comparison to its sibling due to the Z-shaped 3D wrap-around LED taillights. The mid-size sedan debuts the Alexa remote features, thus becoming India's first connected car to do so. This feature enables the owner to interact with the vehicle from their home or office. It also comes equipped with the Next Generation Honda Connect with Telematics Control Unit. The cabin boasts of a 17.7cm HD fully colored TFT meter with a multi-function driver information interface and G Meter along with steering mounted commander scroll switch. Other feature highlights include seat-back pockets with smartphone sub-pockets, walkaway auto-lock, & all auto power windows, and a panoramic sunroof.

The sedan has also been given a 5-star safety rating as it comes equipped with a host of safety features. These include 6 airbags system, hill-start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, Honda LaneWatch™ Camera, multi-angle rear camera, Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Technology among many others. 

Mechanically, the New-Gen Honda City offers two engine options. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that will churn out 121 bhp power and 145 Nm torque. The engine here is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with CVT as an option. While the diesel variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine that will produce 100 bhp of maximum power output with 200 Nm of peak torque. The diesel powertrain will come linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
