MG Motor India delivered the first batch of more than 500 units of the recently launched Astor SUV in the country. Being launched on October 11, 2021 at a starting price of Rs 9.78 Lakhs, MG Astor was sold out for 2021 within 20 minutes of opening the bookings. It is offered in five color schemes and nine variants while directly aimed at Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks in the Indian market. MG Astor is India’s first SUV with personal AI assistant and first-in-segment Autonomous (Level 2) technology.
The delivery of 500 units in a single day holds significance as almost every automaker's production in the country is affected due to acute shortage of chips. The British brand is trying its best to improve the availability to meet its initial target of 4000-5000 deliveries by December end 2021. MG Motor India has also started the pre-bookings for the Astor for delivery in 2022. The SUV can be booked online or by visiting company authorized showrooms across the country. The Astor is available in four trims namely Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp. Adorning the brand's Emotional Dynamism design language, MG Astor is equipped with i-SMART technology with 80+ connected car features.
Mechanically, MG Astor is offered with a couple of petrol engines in the form of a naturally aspirated 1.5L VTi-Tech unit and a 1.3L turbocharged 220 Turbo unit. The former makes top power of 108 bhp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 144 Nm at 4400 rpm while the latter dishes out 138 bhp at 5600 rpm and 220 Nm at 3600 rpm. The smaller 1.3L turbo petrol engine is exclusively offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the bigger 1.5L engine can be availed with a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit. The SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the braking duties are helmed by disc units at both front and rear. It measures slightly over 4.3 metres in length.
