The locally assembled Mercedes S-Class will carry forward most of the features from the imported model

Mercedes Benz launched the latest generation S-Class in June this year in the price range of Rs 2.17-2.19 crores (ex-showroom). The car received the ‘Best Car of the World’ title as well after an overwhelming response from the customers. With the increasing demand for the CBU model, the automaker is now all set to produce it locally. The price announcement for the CKD S-Class will be done on October 7 through a physidigital press conference. An official media invite has been rolled out for the same. 


Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Design & Color Options

Design-wise, the Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class will remain similar to the imported model. Upfront, the upcoming vehicle is expected to get a new set of LED headlamps, a revised chrome grille, and a reprofiled bumper. It is also being said that the automaker might offer ‘Digital Light’ technology on the headlights. Besides this, customers will get to make a choice in alloy wheels that range between 18-20 inches. The color options will remain the same. The upcoming S-Class will continue to be offered in Onyx Black, Rubelite Red, Designo Diamond White, Anthracite Blue, and Emerald Green.

Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Features

In terms of features, we can expect the Made-in-India S-Class to carry forward most of the bits from its CBU counterpart. These include a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment unit, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, and ambient lighting. Besides this, features like the rear seat entertainment touchscreen system and the Burmester 4D surround sound system might come as a standard fit. We can further expect the CKD S-Class to get more seat massage and wellness functions. 


Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Engine Specifications

Performance-wise, the CKDS-Class will share the engine options with its CBU counterpart. Having said that, it will come equipped with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a top power of 365 bhp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. While the 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder diesel unit generates 329 bhp power and 700 Nm peak torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 9-speed automatic gearbox. However, it is still not confirmed if the vehicle will get a rear wheel steering or Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive-system as a standard fit. 

Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Expected Price & Rivals

We can expect the locally-assembled S-Class to be priced at around Rs 1.75 crore (ex-showroom). This further indicates that it will be Rs 42 lakhs cheaper than the fully imported model on sale currently. Moving on, the CKD S-Class will rival the likes of BMW 7-Series and Audi A8.
