If you’re in the market for a fuel-efficient petrol car, here are your best options.

Petrol cars offer comparatively better levels of refinement and NVH. The Indian car industry is also seeing a gradual shift towards petrol-engined cars. But, to an Indian car owner, one of the most important considerations is fuel efficiency. Here’s a list of the top 10 most fuel-efficient car.

The figures quoted here are ARAI certified, so they don’t always reflect real-world efficiency figures as those tests are conducted in the lab under ideal conditions.

1. Datsun Redigo - 25.17kpl

The car is powered by a 54hp, 0.8-litre engine which also powers the Renault Kwid. Prices start at Rs 2.81 lakh (on-road, Delhi), and considering you get a frugal engine and youthful styling, the Redigo is a decent buy. There’s an AMT version, which costs Rs 3.81 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it is as fuel efficient as its manual counterpart.

2. Renault Kwid - 25.17kpl

The Renault shares its engine with the Redigo, and the same ARAI-rated fuel-efficiency figure. The car features slightly more premium and spacious interiors, along with a touchscreen infotainment system on the top-spec trim. Prices start at Rs 2.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). There’s a 1.0-litre version and an AMT variant also on sale, or you could even get the Climber version.

3. Maruti Alto 800 - 24.7kpl

5. Tata Tiago - 23.84kpl

Prices for the Tiago start from Rs 3.26 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It’s a good-looking hatchback that offers a stylish, yet practical interior, and there’s a fair amount of kit as well. There’s an AMT version also on offer.
