The prospective customers have a long-held opinion that the manual version of a car will always offer better mileage than the automatic version of the car. Given, the fact did hold true to some extent in the past, the recent leaps in the automatic transmission area has led to the new generation of the automatic transmission cars not only match but also leave behind in some cases the manual versions when it comes to mileage. Let us take a look at some models in the Indian car market whose automatic transmissions offer better mileage than the manual versions of the same.

Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT

Highlights -- 3-cylinder, 999 cc petrol engine rated to deliver 67 Bhp and 137 Nm. Mated to 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed AMT gearbox. AMT variant’s mileage is 24.04 kmpl while manual variant’s mileage is only 23.01 kmpl.

Honda Jazz CVT

Highlights -- 1.2L petrol engine rated to deliver 89 Bhp and 110 Nm. Mated to 5 speed manual and CVT automatic. CVT variant’s mileage is 19 kmpl while manual variant’s mileage is 18.7 kmpl.

Volkswagen Ameo Diesel DSG

Highlights -- 1.5L diesel engine rated to deliver 108 Bhp and 250 Nm. Mated to 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG dual clutch automatic. DSG variant’s mileage is 21.73 kmpl while manual variant’s mileage is 21.66 kmpl.

Nissan Sunny CVT

Highlights -- 1.5L petrol engine rated to deliver 98 Bhp and 134 Nm. Mated to a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed CVT. CVT variant’s mileage is 17.97 kmpl while the manual variant’s mileage is 16.95 kmpl.

Skoda Rapid Diesel DSG

Highlights -- 1.5L diesel engine rated to deliver 108 Bhp and 250 Nm. Mated to 5 speed manual and 7 speed automatic twin-clutch DSG gearbox. DSG automatic variant’s mileage is 21.72 kmpl while the manual variant’s mileage is 21.13 kmpl.

Volkswagen Vento Diesel DSG

Honda BR-V CVT

Highlights -- 1.5l petrol engine rated to deliver 118 Bhp and 145 Nm. Mated to 5-speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox. CVT variant’s mileage is rated at 16 kmpl while the manual version is rated only for 15.4 kmpl.

Toyota Fortuner Automatic

Highlights – 2.7L petrol engine rated to deliver 164 Bhp and 245 Nm. Mated to 6-speed manual gearbox and automatic gearbox. Automatic gearbox variant’s mileage is rated at 10.26 kmpl while manual variant’s mileage is 10.01 kmpl.

Skoda Superb DSG

Highlights -- 1.8L petrol engine rated to deliver 177 Bhp and 250 Nm. Mated to either 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission. DSG variant’s mileage is rated at 14.67 kmpl, while the manual variant’s mileage is rated at 14.12 kmpl.
