Tata Punch is the production version of the H2X Concept SUV Unveiled at the Auto Expo last year.

Tata Motors has finally revealed the official name of its H2X Concept today. Now the production version of the H2X Concept SUV will now be called ‘PUNCH’. The homegrown automaker had unveiled the H2X Concept at the Auto Expo last year. The new Tata Punch becomes the brand’s smallest SUV. It will further be positioned below the Tata Nexon compact SUV. As for the price, we can expect the SUV to start at just under Rs 5 lakh mark. The SUV will go on sale in the coming months.

Tata Punch SUV: Design

The production version of Tata Punch looks similar to the concept version showcased earlier. It is the first SUV from Tata that is based on the ALFA architecture. It further adopts the family design language. From the image released by the automaker, the upper front grille and the DRLs get chrome underlining. While the lower grille gets an inverted tri-arrow design on the mesh. Moving on, the SUV features a big and sporty bumper that further accommodates the wide air-intakes and round-shaped fog lamps. The image further reveals that the upcoming Punch gets blacked-out pillars and a contrasting roof thereby hinting towards dual-tone color options.

Tata Punch SUV: Interior Features

The interior features of the upcoming Punch SUV have not been revealed yet. However, we can expect it to look similar to its concept version. Talking about the H2X Concept, the dashboard is highlighted by a free-standing 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and square-shaped AC vents. Besides this, the new Punch SUV might share most of the features like a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a digital tachometer and analogue speedometers, Harman audio system, ambient lighting, fabric seats, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, cornering stability, and HVAC controls, with the Altroz and Tiago.

“Tata PUNCH, as the name suggests, is an energetic vehicle with a capability to go anywhere. Light on its feet and strong in its caliber, this is a vehicle that truly punches above its weight. With the perfect combination of stunning design, technology, and driving dynamics, the PUNCH will come equipped with superlative features and an architecture that has proven its versatility in all forms. True to the SUV genes of all Tata Motors’ products and catering to the needs of customers who are looking for a compact city car with pure SUV characteristics, PUNCH will be the fourth addition to our SUV family, widening the range of options for all to choose from,” as commented by Shailesh Chandra - President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors.

Tata Punch SUV: Engine Specifications

Performance-wise, the upcoming Tata Punch is likely to come with two 1.2-litre petrol engine options. The entry-level trims will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated unit that will generate a top power of 85 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. While the top-end variant might draw its power from a 1.2-litre turbocharged unit. Transmission duties are likely to be taken care of by either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Tata Punch SUV: Rivals

Once launched in the Indian market, the Tata Punch will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the upcoming Hyundai Casper, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
