The new-gen 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the Thar SUV's new ladder-on-frame chassis

Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the next-gen Scorpio SUV in February 2022 in the Indian market. Originally scheduled to launch during the festive season period (October-November) this year, it has been pushed to February next year due to COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the launch of the all-new XUV700 has also been postponed to the last quarter of 2021. Mahindra couldn't have found a better platform for the launch of Scorpio than the country's biggest biennial auto event - the 2022 Auto Expo - which will be held in February next year.

Being based on the Thar SUV's new ladder-on-frame chassis, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio was recently spotted testing in Rajasthan. Codenamed as Z101, it will come with modern and advanced features in the form of steering mounted audio and telephonic controls, keyless entry, automatic AC with vents for 2nd and 3rd row, engine start/stop button, cruise control and a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The new SUV is also rumoured to feature an electric sunroof. There will also be styling updates at the outside but the 2022 Scorpio will retain its signature elements such as the rugged stance, long body and muscular appearance.

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to come in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants will get a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit under the bonnet which will develop power output around 150bhp. As for the diesel-powered variants, they will come with a 2.2L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which will generate maximum power of approx 158bhp. Both the engines will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission choices. The range-topping variants will also boast of a 4x4 drive system as standard. Mahindra Scorpio is priced in a range of Rs 12.31-17.02 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) and the new-gen model is expected to be more expensive by a few thousands.
