Mahindra eKUV100 is all set to go into production anytime soon; expected launch end of this year

Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to launch the eKUV100 by the end of this year. It will be the company’s first in-house all-electric car. Once launched, this new electric vehicle will be the most affordable one in the country. It is based on the Mahindra KUV100 which is on sale currently in the Indian market. Furthermore, Mahindra eKUV100 is likely to come only in one standard trim.

In terms of design, the upcoming eKUV100 gets a revised front look. The micro SUV gets dark blue accents on the nose cone, headlamps, tail lights, and the wheel caps. Its charging ports are located on both the front fenders. The colour options for the electric model have not been revealed yet. However, the model on display during the Delhi Auto Expo this year came white while the one presented in the promo video was dark blue in colour.

The cabin of the Mahindra eKUV100 looks similar to the standard KUV100. The upcoming electric micro SUV will come equipped with a plethora of features. These will include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, and standard dual airbags. Features such as remote door lock/unlock, cabin precooling, location tracking, remote diagnostics, driving pattern monitor in the vehicle will easily be accessible via a smartphone. Furthermore, the vehicle will get seat covers with blue highlights. The model that was on display during Auto Expo 2020 did not have alloy wheels and automatic climate control.

The Mahindra eKUV100 is pinned on a new light EV platform called MESMA 48. It is powered by a 15.9 kW electric motor that churns out 54.4 bhp power and 120 Nm peak torque. Mahindra claims that the battery pack gives a range of 147 kms. Furthermore, this liquid-cooled battery pack supports fast charging. It can charge up to 80 percent in just 55 minutes.

The Mahindra eKUV100 is likely to be priced at around Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom) as announced at Auto Expo this year. This is the price after including the FAME II benefits. But as per the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020, early birds could benefit from an additional incentive of Rs 1.50 lakh, thus, bringing down the price of the electric vehicle to Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
