The MPV will be powered by the same set of engines as the Seltos SUV

Kia is all set to launch an all-new MPV in the Indian market. We have learnt that the upcoming Kia MPV, internally codenamed as KY, will be introduced in and around March 2022 in India. It has been spotted as a test mule multiple times in Korea as well as in our country. It has been further known that Kia KY will be locally developed at the brand's Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh while exported to several global markets. The MPV will be powered by the same set of engines as the Seltos SUV.

Kia KY Design

Kia KY styling will be based on the present company models like Sonet and Seltos. The design cues will also be borrowed from Kia's global product EV6. The spy images have indicated that it will be identical to the Seltos if seen from the front three-quarter angle but it has slightly enlarged rear door and glasshouse. The shoulder lines are much sharper while the wheelbase is also expected to get an increase in order to accommodate the third row of seats. It is believed to measure around 4.5 metres in length, a la Mahindra Marazzo. Several media reports have suggested that it might share length and wheelbase with the Hyundai Alcazar. The third row seats will be "usable".

Kia KY Engine

Mechanically, Kia KY will be powered by the twin 1.5L engines in petrol and diesel fuel trim. We have already seen these engines with the Seltos and Creta in the Indian market. The power output and torque performance is also expected to be on the similar lines. The MPV could be offered with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. Kia intends to position the MPV between Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. It will be the only MPV after its launch to come with both petrol and diesel engines as Maruti Ertiga is only sold with a petrol engine while Mahindra Marazzo comes only with a diesel engine.
