New-Gen Mahindra Thar to be launched tomorrow; booking amount to be annouced as well

One of the most anticipated automobile launches of 2020  is taking place in October. 2020 Mahindra Thar is to be launced tomorrow on the 2nd of October. The off-roader's launch will coincide with the 75th Anniversary of Mahindra and Mahindra. Recently, the Indian automaker unveiled the Next-Generation Mahindra Thar on 15th of August 2020 with plenty of upgrades in terms of design, features and powertrain options. Almost every detail about the SUV was revealed at the unveiling except for the price and the booking amount which will be announced tomorrow. Mahindra Thar’s direct rival in the Indian market is the Force Gurkha which is expected to arrive by the year-end. New Thar will be retailed in two trims namely AX and LX in the domestic market. 

The off-roader is underpinned by an all-new platform but will sport the older model’s boxy silhouette. One can notice new design elements like a new dual-tone bumper & grille, raised fenders, refreshed taillights and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. The manufacturer has revamped the interior too with the cabin offering premium fabric upholstery. The interior boasts of features like a new instrument cluster with coloured TFT display, roof-mounted speakers, touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. For the hardcore off-road enthusiast, the Thar comes equipped with elements like segment-first real-time adventure stats, LED DRLs, multi-function steering wheel, fog lamps and cruise control. Indian buyers can also look forward to two different cabin layout, a four-seater and a six-seater. The Mahindra Thar LX variant will provide both convertible and hardtop options in a 4-seater layout. 

New Thar will come equipped with two powertrains, a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel. Talking about the performance, the diesel variant will belt out 130 bhp of power output and 320 Nm of peak torque while the petrol model will generate 150 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission. The AX variant will just come with a manual gearbox while the LX variant can be availed with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission also. 

Mahindra does not comprise on safety, therefore the SUV will come with features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, ISOFIX Child Seats, Hill-Hold and Hill-Descent Control among others. There is no update on price as we revealed earlier but expect the base model to start from Rs 10 lakhs with the top-end trim retailing at around Rs 15 lakhs. The prices mentioned here would be ex-showroom, India.
