The caption in the Tata Nexon DCT teaser image reads "2 days to go, keep following to discover the #NextLevel"

Tata Nexon is one of the most popular subcompact SUVs in the country. It first arrived in the Indian market in 2017 and found wide acceptance among the buyers. The New Tata Nexon BS6 was launched a few months back in India to comply with the new stringent BS6 emission norms. Now, the home-grown automaker has released the teaser of a new variant leading to immense speculations. The caption in the teaser image reads “ "2 days to go, keep following to discover the #NextLevel". There is no disclosure about the upcoming model, but it could be the much delayed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) unit.

If the rumours are true, this would become the first model in the Tata’s portfolio to receive the DCT gearbox. To add further spice in the highly competitive subcompact SUV segment, the new Tata Nexon DCT would go on sale from September 2, 2020 just before the arrival of Kia Sonet. By giving DCT option to the Nexon, Tata Motors hopes to generate sales in the segment which is a popular choice among buyers but is fiercely competitive. Tata Nexon was recently given a facelifted in the form of new Impact 2.0 design philosophy giving it a new stylish look.

The SUV spotted in the released images isn’t much different from the current model. We can clearly tell that the DCT variant wouldn’t be much different from the current XZ variant in terms of styling and appearance. It would come with dual-barrel projector headlamps housing integrated LED DRLs. The other expected features would include fog lamps and LED taillamp cluster. The DCT Tata Nexon would feature 16-inch alloy wheels, which are also seen in the XZ+ variants.

The latest Nexon is equipped with two powertrains - a 1.2L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel units. The petrol unit churns out 120 bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine delivers 110 bhp of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. The current model on sale is offered with a six-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The Tata Nexon SUV rivals in the Indian market is Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport and the upcoming Kia Sonet
