Mercedes Benz India registered a growth of 65 percent in H1 of 2021 as compared to the same period last year in the country. The company retailed 4857 units during January-June 2021 in the Indian market while it had only sold 2948 units during this period last year. Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB spearheaded this growth and was the single highest selling model followed by the GLE luxury SUV. In addition, the A-Class Limousine and the all-new GLA also contributed handsomely to the H1 2021 sales volumes in the domestic market.
The high-end products like GLS Maybach 600 and New S-Class along with AMGs were also in higher demand. In fact, the EQC which is being touted as India’s first luxury all-electric SUV, also recorded decent sales numbers. The online sales numbers were 20 percent of the overall sales in H1 2021. However, for the April-May period, when lockdown was imposed in most parts of the country, it was 35 percent of the total sales as more than 25000+ leads were generated by online sales alone in H1 2021. The lifestyle collection stores witnessed 5 percent growth in Jan-June 2021 with nearly 700+ orders fulfilled. Mercedes Benz has retailed over 10600 connected cars in India till H1 2021.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Our H1 2021 sales growth is in-line with the market sentiments and strongly underlines a continuing high customer demand for models. We have built a solid order bank on the back of new launches and it is highly satisfying to witness an all-round rise in demand for our products across the portfolio. Starting from the A-Class Limousine to the GLS Maybach and the AMG, customers have highly appreciated our product launches by strongly preferring a Mercedes-Benz and an AMG over other models; reiterating their confidence and trust in our product portfolio and customer oriented market strategy.”
