The Indian Govt has extended the validity of driving license & vehicle documents until September 30, 2021.

The Indian Government has once again extended the validity of driving licenses and vehicle documents till the 31st of September 2021. Earlier the deadline for the validity of the documents was set as June 30, 2021. As per the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, vehicle documents which expired on 1st February 2020 or maybe expiring anytime before 30th September 2021. All these will now be valid till 31st September 2021. Moreover, the citizens will now be able to avail transport related services. 




The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has made a few changes to the rules concerning the Driver Training Centers and the issuance of driving license. Earlier, it was mandatory for the candidates to undergo a driving test at RTOs before the final license was given to them. Currently, as per the recent release by MoRTH, candidates who successfully pass the test at these eligible centres need not give the driving test being conducted at the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

“Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing due to conditions for prevention of spread of COVID-19 across the country, it is advised that the validity of all of the above referred documents whose extension of validity could not be, or was not likely to be, granted due to lock-down and/or COVID -19 and which had expired since 1st of Feb, 2020 or would expire by 30th June 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till 30th June, 2021. Enforcement authorities are advised to treat such documents valid till 30th June 2021. This will help out citizens in availing transport related services. It may be the last advisory in this regard,” as commented by The ministry of road, transport and highways (MoRTH). 

Besides these, the ministry had earlier issued advisories dated 30th March, 2020, 9th June, 2020, 24th August 2020 and 27th December 2020 to all States and Union Territories with respect to the extension of validity of the documents related to Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
