Tata Cars are one of the most popular ones in India while Tata Motors is one of the two major home-grown automakers besides Mahindra & Mahindra in the Indian market. Originally established around 75 years back in 1945 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, it is a part of Tata Group, a well known Indian conglomerate. However, it made its entry into the passenger vehicle segment much later in 1991 with the Sierra SUV. Having said that, it was the fully indigenous Indica small car in 1998 that really moved things for Tata Motors in India. Presently, Tata cars are manufactured at six facilities in several parts of India in the form of Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Sanand, Dharwad, and Pune. In fact, it is also listed on the New York Stock Exchange besides the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.
Tata Cars has more than 8400 sales and service points in the country, which includes both passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle segments. Presently, Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran is the Chairman of Tata Motors, besides being the chairman of Tata Group, which happens to be the parent organization. Furthermore, Mr. Guenter Butschek is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Managing Director (MD) of the company since February 15, 2016. There are a total of seven directors on the board of management of Tata Motors Cars : Dr. Ralf Speth, O P Bhatt, Hanne Sorensen, Vedika Bhandarkar, Mitsuhiko Yamashita, Natarajan Chandrasekaran & Guenter Butschek. Other key people are Shailesh Chandra and Girish Wagh, who head Tata Motors cars (PV) & Tata Motors trucks (CV) divisions, respectively.
