Along with its global alliance partner Renault, the brand signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government in February 2008. The aim was to set up a manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai. The Nissan X-Trail was the first model from Nissan in India, and it was brought through the CBU route. After the success of the X-Trail, the brand launched the Nissan Teana in 2007, followed by the Nissan 370Z in 2010. Later, Nissan started manufacturing more Nissan cars in different segments, including hatchbacks, sedans, and full-sized MPVs.

The automaker later discontinued the Nissan Micra, Evalia, Sunny, and a few other models in India due to low sales numbers. As of now, Nissan has one car in its lineup, the Nissan Magnite subcompact crossover SUV, which was unveiled in October 2020. It is also one of the best Nissan cars in India. Nissan is all set to unveil new cars in India in the coming months.
