There is no denying the fact that since Fortuner entered the Indian market, Toyota has been dominating the premium SUV segment. It has been the story for some years now, and Toyota Fortuner still outshines its competitors. However, things are about to get steamier as Ford announced its second generation of power packed SUV. By launching the Trailblazer, Ford made clear about its intention in the SUV market, however, with Endeavour they are looking to compete with Fortuner fiercely. In 2017, just a year after its launch, the new generation Endeavour has created tremendous buzz around the market, primarily because of competitive pricing. The pricing pattern will help the company to experience 200%+ increase in SUV sales by 2020. Currently, around 20,000 units are sold annually. However, by 2020, more than 50,000 units will be sold. Endeavour with its pricing strategy makes the old Fortuner model look overpriced.
Moving directly on to the car model, let us start this comprehensive Ford Endeavour review:
Exterior: Similar to its predecessor, Ford Endeavour is inspired by Ranger pick-up truck. However, the earlier design was put forth by Mazda whereas the new one has been designed and developed by Ford itself. Ford Endeavour has been built on a new platform – all new T6 which forms the basis for future Ford Pickup trucks and SUVs. Endeavour’s exterior is bulky and squarish with futuristic design. Timeless characteristic and proportionate size make Endeavour – a timeless SUV. It is a beast among SUVs with big all-rounded SUV with macho styling packs appeal. It has a solid build quality and a butch road presence.
Ford Endeavour has an interior similar to that of Ford’s F-150 pickup truck. Its cabin features SYNC 3 multimedia system with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen display similar to that of the truck. The steering wheel has three-spokes which give it a sporty look followed by an instrument panel which entails an analogue speedometer with two screens on each side. One of the touchscreen displays information such as temperature, fuel and mileage whereas the other is meant for entertainment options. The most attractive part about the higher variant of Endeavour is that it also provides a useful off-road instruction such as pitch, the angle of roll and so on. While the entry-level variant contains leather seats, top-of-the-line variant also comes with a leather-stitched dashboard. The 4x4 variant comes packed with Hill Descent Control and Hill Launch Assist.
The Ford Endeavour in India comes with two diesel engine options. First is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder unit while the other is the 3.2-litre five-cylinder mill. The 2.2-litre engine produces a power of 158bhp and generates torque of 385Nm whereas the latter racks up 197bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre engine is available in both 4x2 automatic and manual setups while the top-of-the-line variant comes with 4x4 manual & automatic transmission set up.
Variants: Ford Endeavour is available in three variants – Trend 2.2 4x2 AT, Titanium 2.2 4x2 AT and Titanium 3.2 4x4 AT.
