Fiat Punto is the Italian manufacturer’s premium hatchback which has been present in the Indian market for nearly a decade now. Introduced in the year 2009 with diesel and petrol engine, Punto is among the most popular hatchbacks in the Indian market. Due to the rising competition, the automaker introduced a new model to face the cut-throat competition in the hatchback segment. As a result, Punto Evo was introduced in the year 2014 which came with significant external and internal changes as compared to its predecessor. The look and feel of Fiat Punto Evo are similar to that of its sedan sister – Linea.
Having learnt about the overview, let us dive deep into the comprehensive Fiat Punto Evo review:
In the last three years, the Punto Evo has undergone a considerable amount of changes. The entry of Baleno and other budget hatchback cars have stiffened the competition. This led to the entry of facelifted Punto which now stands out due to its new and refreshing design. As for the façade, the Punto Evo gets the same feel as that of Avventura including the swept back headlight. Other additions include a new Fiat logo and bumper with the air intake. Nonetheless, the overall proportion of the Fiat Punto remains the same along with the chrome garnishing on the fog lamps in the middle of the grille. From the side view, it can be seen that the model has flared wheel arches and has a forward-leaning posture which gives it a sporty stance. The volume of chrome strip used in Punto Evo models is quite a lot as compared to other cars.
On the inside, the Fiat Punto Evo is exactly like Fiat Linea. A revised dashboard, new instrument cluster all add to the modern appeal of the car. Apart from these elements, the storage space in the car has been improved with the provision of cubby holes to keep your belongings. Other standard interior features in the Fiat Punto Evo include automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, power windows, rear defogger, remote keyless entry and tailgate opening, rear AC vents and a music system. The top of the trim model also gets 16-inch alloy wheels, gear knob, leather trim for seats, cruise control and climate control.
Under the hood, the Fiat Punto Evo comes with two petrol and one diesel engine options. The first one is a 1.2-litre unit which produces 67bhp and generates 96Nm of torque. The other is a 1.4-litre engine which produces 89bhp and generates 115Nm of torque. As for the diesel engine, it offers 75bhp and generates 197Nm of torque. All these engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Fiat Punto Evo comes in 5 variants – 1.3 Active, 1.3 Dynamic, 1.3 Emotion, 1.2 Dynamic and Pure 1.2 Fire.
Fiat Punto Evo on road price is between INR 4.7 to INR 7.4 lakh considering price after GST. Fiat Punto Evo price and specifications make it a direct competitor of B+ segment cars such as Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.
