Harley-Davidson has introduced two new offerings in the Sportster line-up for 2018 - the Iron 1200 and the Fort-Eight Special. The Forty-Eight will sit beside the regular model in the company’s line up. In terms of differences, there aren’t many between the two Forty-Eights.
Major components on this bike are the same as the ones on the standard bike. This means you get the same frame with the same geometry as well. This bike continues to use the same chunky 49mm front fork and thick 130 section tyre. Both the Forty-Eights also come equipped with the same V-twin motors. The tunes on them are the same and so are the power figures. Other similarities include the front-set footpegs.
On the outside
The changes between the two bikes are largely cosmetic. To begin with, the fuel tank gets a nice 70s themed graphics and the wheels are black this time around. The biggest however, comes in form of the new tall handlebar. The raised handlebar paired with the front-set pegs put you in a dynamic position – giving the bike a different feel on the whole.
How does it ride?
This motorcycle feels pretty good and after riding the Iron 1200, it feels sporty. This mainly owes to the high quality front fork and brace that makes the front-end feel more planted. The large front tyre also requires more steering input and like the Iron 1200, the cornering clearance is a bit of an issue. Croatia’s smooth roads meant the cruiser felt well-sprung. However, since these bikes don’t have a lot of suspension travel, large potholes like the ones on our roads will be a bit scary. This 1200 offers performance like any other Sportster with this motor, loads of toque and the uneven power delivery.
Should I buy one?
Harley India states that one of the two new Sportsters model will make its way to India in the festive season. However, we will find out for sure when the launch date gets closers. In terms of pricing, this new model will be priced around Rs 10.50 lakh which is the same as the regular Forty-Eight.
