The updated 2017 Terrano comes with additional features and equipment, but remains mechanically unchanged.

Nissan has left its Terrano more or less unchanged since its launch in 2013 and its age was starting to show – the interiors, features and infotainment system were all starting to feel dated. But now, Nissan has finally updated its Terrano to bring it more in line with its competitors, especially its cousin, Renault’s Duster.

The exterior doesn’t look very different at first glance and the changes aren’t immediately evident. The side mirrors are redesigned and are electrically retractable, and now feature integrated turn signal indicators. There’s new badging on the A-pillar, and beneath the side mirrors, that indicate the variant. That aside, the car is unchanged from the pre-facelift model – the chrome fog lamp surrounds, daytime running lamps and side-step fitted on the car pictured above are optional accessories.

The chunk of changes is inside the cabin. It now features dual-tone, black-and-brown interiors and gets additional equipment, such as the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, speed limiter, anti-pinch driver-side window, one-touch turn indicators, steering-stalk-mounted infotainment controls and redesigned instrument cluster. The cars touchscreen and switchgear are shared with the Renault Duster.

            

There are some new materials too, such as the soft-touch plastics on the dash top and faux-leather door inserts. The oddly positioned rear air con vent has now been removed and replaced by a bottle holder. The seats are the same as before, but now come in a brown-and-black colour scheme, just like the rest of the cabin. A driver-side armrest has been added for the 2017 model, though.

Mechanically, the car remains unchanged. It is powered by the 1.5-litre DCi diesel engine as before and is available in two states of tune – 85hp and 110hp. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission for the 85hp variant, and a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed AMT gearbox for the 110hp.

The 110hp Terrano with the AMT gearbox gets Hill Assist Control to prevent the car from sliding back on inclines. The SUV is also available with a 104hp, 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a five-speed gearbox only. The car’s prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol and diesel variants and go up to Rs 14.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-of-the-line diesel AMT.
