The new third-gen Maruti Dzire has been unveiled before it's launch next month. The new model comes with a host of new updates, while still retaining key features of what is traditionally a Maruti. The new model will have no mention of the Swift brand and will simply be referred to as the Maruti Dzire.

Even though the Swift is one of India's highest selling models, sales have been dwindling recently. So, with the new Dzire, Maruti hopes to forge a completely new identity for its sedans - one of the biggest reasons why the Swift name hasn't been added to the monicker. The new model has been designed keeping some of the complaints about the previous models in mind. Thus, we have a much smoother design language and a revised, 376-litre boot. The car's elegant look is thanks to a gentler roofline, a sharply formed A-pillar and LED daytime running lights and the LED projector headlamps. It now looks like a proper sedan, instead of a big hatchback. The front polygonal grille is fitted with a chrome frame that works wonders for its overall look. Chrome has been generously used in the design and the tail-lights are connected by a chrome strip that runs across the width of the boots.

The Dzire will be powered by an 85hp, 1.2-litre K12 petrol and the popular Fiat-based 75hp, 1.3-litre Multijet diesel. Both engines get AMT single-clutch automatics as well as manual gearboxes. And these engines should be sufficient as the new Dzire is expected to be substantially lighter by 85kg (petrol) and 105kg (diesel) than the outgoing car. Unlike the Ciaz, there won’t be an SHVS system on the Dzire just yet, but insiders say a more powerful electric assist system is being worked on. Maruti is keen to hold onto the lead as far as fuel efficiency is concerned.

The interiors are much more similar to the Baleno. They get a premium makeover though, with a large touchscreen infotainment display that works with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The dashboard has a lot going too, like the fancy looking dials and steering wheel. To keep away from the tried and tested Swift Design ideas, Maruti has kept the instrument panel rectangular, the vents on the central console are wedge-shaped and the air-con system doesn’t have rotary knobs either.

The black and beige upholstery is soothing to the eye, while the increased wheelbase offers more leg space for both the driver and the passengers in the front and the back. Rear passengers also get a second set of AC vents.

The Maruti Dzire has been launched and is priced between ₹5.45 - 9.41 lakh.
