Benelli was founded by six Benelli brothers Giuseppe, Giovanni, Francesco, Filippo, Domenico and Antonio. The six brothers used to repair and manufacture motorcycle parts. The brothers formed a company and during the World War I, the company had already begun assembling bikes of their own. In 1920, the company made its first in-house engine, and in the year 1921, the company presented its first bike and entered the automobile industry. The first bike was ridden by Antonio Benelli which featured in a race and immediately proved to be a winner. Today Benelli is a part of the Qianjiang (QJ) Group, which produces more than 1.2 million two-wheelers per year and around 50,000 are Benelli bikes.
The brand manufactures bikes in sports and superbikes segments, while the company has only two bikes in the superbikes segment.
Benelli is one of the oldest bike makers in the world, but still, there are very few Benelli superbikes in India; it is believed that Benelli bikes are not ideal for the Indian roads. For this, the maker has to make the new Benelli superbike models in such a way that it offers seamless performance on the Indian roads.
