Moving towards green mobility is the current requirement and working towards it is Yamaha Motor Company and Hero Cycles. Yamaha along with Hero and Mitsui are studying the business feasibility of electrically powered bicycles in India.
Yamaha Motor will supply Hero Cycles with drive units (E-kits). These e-kits will be the power source for the electrically power assisted bicycles. Hero Cycles will develop and manufacture electrically power assisted bicycles utilizing E-kits. Moreover, Hero Cycles will sell these e-bicycles under its own brand.
The e-bicycles will go on sale by the end of the first quarter of 2019. These e-bicycles will be available at Hero Cycle dealerships. At first, the product will be available in Delhi, then it will reach to other cities of the country. India is one of the biggest two-wheeler markets in the world and Yamaha considers a similar type of growth in this e-bicycle segment.
