The XC60 SUV got a better score than its larger sibling, the XC90.

The Volvo was awarded a five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) crash tests recently. The XC60, in fact, performed better than its larger sibling, the XC90, in the two-tier testing system. Euro NCAP scores cars both in their standard form and with their fully kitted versions.

The XC60 got a score of 98 percent for adult occupant protection, 87 percent for child occupant protection, 76 percent for pedestrian safety and 95 percent for safety assistance systems. According to Matthew Avery, research director for Thatcham, which is a member of Euro NCAP, the XC60's reduced weight and advanced assistance technologies from the XC90 have helped the SUV achieve this high score.

The Swedish carmaker intends to bring its XC60 to India by December 2017 and the car will be assembled at the company’s Bengaluru plant.
