Volvo S60 expected to launch in the Indian market in 2021; bookings to start in January next year

Volvo Cars India has officially unveiled the third-generation S60 for the Indian market. The premium sedan is expected to be launched in early 2021. It is likely to be priced around Rs 45 lakhs (ex-showroom). Bookings for the vehicle will begin from January next year. While deliveries are slated to commence from March 2021.

The New Volvo S60 will be based on its own SPA architecture which also underpins the S90 - Volvo's flagship saloon. In terms of design, the new sedan features LED headlamps with Thor’s hammer DRLs upfront. The C-shaped LED tail-lamps have been retained. However, the rear end does get minor updates such as the number plate housing is now on the boot lid.

Inside the cabin, the four-wheeler features a dashboard that is similar to other Volvo cars. There is a Tesla-Esque style 9-inch infotainment system present in the centre console through which you can access all the features. Other highlights include a wireless phone charger, Harman Kardon music system, 4-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, park assist camera, powered front seats, and active bending lights. Safety kit on board the Volvo S60 comprises of pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, oncoming mitigation on braking, lane-keeping aid, city safety with steering support, driver control alert, speed alert and hill start assist.

Talking about the powertrain, India-spec Volvo S60 will be offered only with a petrol engine. This will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that will generate 190 bhp of power output and 300 Nm of peak torque. The engine will further be linked to an 8-speed Geartronic auto transmission. This same engine powers the Volvo XC40 as well in the country. The S60 will be offered in five paint schemes namely Crystal White Pearl, Onyx Black, Maple Brown, Denim Blue, and Fusion Red. Once launched, it will rival the likes of C-Class from Mercedes-Benz and BMW 3 Series.
