Volkswagen Virtus that is on sale in the global market gets a mid-life refresh. The German automaker will launch the facelifted version of the Virtus sedan in April 2022 in the Indian market. The new mid-size sedan has been spotted doing test runs on Indian roads for quite some time now. The global unveiling of the model will take place in February 2022.
The new Virtus is based on the VW group’s modular MQB A0 platform. Dimensionally, the upcoming sedan is larger than the Vento on sale. It stands at 4482mm in length, 1751mm in width, and 1472mm in height. In addition, it comes with a wheelbase of 2651mm. This makes the new Virtus 98mm longer than the Vento. Talking about the India-spec Virtus, it will come equipped with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control among many others.
"We will be starting production of the car somewhere around February or March and there will be a market introduction by the end of April," as commented by Ashish Gupta - Volkswagen Passenger Cars India’s Brand Director.
Performance-wise, the upcoming Virtus sedan will carry forward the 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that does duty on the Vento currently on sale in India. This particular engine is capable of returning a maximum power of 108 bhp while being mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. In addition, it might also get a larger 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine that churns out 149 bhp power and 250 Nm peak torque. This unit can be had with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
