News Highlights

  • VW Taigun will undergo production at Aurangabad facility
  • VW Taigun will be launched in the last quarter of 2021
  • VW Taigun will use same platform and engines as Skoda Kushaq

Volkswagen India will unravel the production-spec Taigun SUV on March 24, 2021 in the country. Being showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in concept form, it will share its underpinnings with the recently unveiled Skoda Kushaq. Volkswagen Taigun is expected to launch in the Indian market during the festive season of Diwali around October-November 2021. The Taigun SUV is expected to be priced in a range of 10-18 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) while taking on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos and the yet-to-be-launched MG Astor.

“It’s going to be the year of the Taigun, which is our big story for this year,” stated Ashish Gupta, brand head, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. Being a part of India 2.0 Project, Volkswagen Taigun will be based on the MQB A0 IN architecture while being locally assembled at the company's Aurangabad production facility. “The A0 SUV segment, which we are entering with the Taigun, is the fastest growing segment,” said Gupta. The new SUV will follow Volkswagen's signature styling language with several upmarket elements, predominantly chrome. The cabin will boast of premium upholstery and some of the finest features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof and touchscreen infotainment system.

Mechanically, Volkswagen Taigun will be powered by the same set of engines as the Skoda Kushaq, which clearly suggests that there will not be a diesel engine on offer. It will draw power from a 1.0L TSI petrol engine and a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. The former will develop a top power of 113bhp while the latter will unleash maximum power output of 148bhp. The gearbox options will include 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic units. Volkswagen India is expected to launch an array of new vehicles in the Indian market in the next few months which also include the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift. Stay tuned for more info on the same!
